Since the beginning of 2017, SSM has been collaborating with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) projects. The managers of the ICRC visited SSM in person and have purchased the affordable ICS for the refugees in Somalia. The fuel of the ICS they purchased is charcoal.

SSM ICS are designed to be more efficient and environmentally friendly than traditional open fires or basic stoves, and they offer several benefits:
1. Environmental Impact:SSM ICS typically reduce the amount of fuel required for cooking. This can help mitigate deforestation and reduce the emission, contributing to environmental conservation.
2. Health Benefits: By improving combustion efficiency and reducing smoke emissions,SSM ICS can significantly reduce indoor air pollution. This leads to better indoor air quality, lower exposure to harmful particulate matter, and a decreased risk of respiratory illnesses, particularly among women and children who spend more time cooking.
3. Economic Savings: Families using SSM improved cook stoves often save money on fuel costs due to increased fuel efficiency. This can have a positive economic impact, especially for households with limited resources.
4. Time Savings: SSM improved cook stoves can reduce cooking times because they reach higher temperatures more quickly and maintain them more efficiently. This means that women, who are often responsible for cooking in many cultures, may have more time for other activities.
5. Safety: Traditional open fires can pose safety risks, particularly in homes with young children. SSM improved cook stoves are designed with safety features that can reduce the risk of burns and accidents.
ICRC ICS projects not only improve the quality of life for communities but also contribute to broader goals of environmental sustainability and public health.
